They say a picture is worth a thousand words; they say a picture is a window into the world.
But what about a video? A video places you in a moment and lets you experience it completely… fully. It’s not just looking, it’s feeling. You are submersed.
This is a powerful thing. Video is able to be used and enjoyed in every aspect of our lives, which is certainly being demonstrated in the age of COVID-19. Many manufacturing companies are beginning to realize how many benefits video has the power to bring. IEEE GlobalSpec Media Solutions found that 50% of manufacturing marketers spent more money on video in 2017 than they did in the previous year. A well crafted video not only disseminates information effectively, carries your message across platforms, and sells your services, but it also brings people into your company without ever stepping foot on the floor.
When Charles Daniels reached out to me about Wepco looking to embark on a video journey for this exact reason, to welcome people- regardless of what was happening in the world and how much distance they had to keep- I was excited to say the least.
But I had one condition:
Video has to capture the humanity of a moment, the people of a company, the stories behind their purpose… not just a machine or a plastic part. And I was pleasantly informed that Wepco was already built upon these values.
As a business, you know you’re only as good as your people. As an outsider, deciding whether or not I want you to design my molds, make my components, or create my idea… I first want to meet your people. Video allows everyone to meet your people, experience your story, and share your craft.
When I watch a video of team member Scott telling his story about getting involved in manufacturing at a young age and the mentorship that allowed him to grow in his role, I feel more confident and enthusiastic knowing his hands are the ones shaping each mold. When people watch videos of Steve’s eyes lighting up as he fabricates an idea and some conversation into an entire functioning and ready design, they want to call him to do the same for them.
When you get to experience the way a team collaborates, interacts, and laughs on the manufacturing floor in a video, you feel like you know them. At Wepco, we’re big on team, and with a few seconds of the right video, one that captures what our team is really about, each colleague, customer, or valued community member will feel as if they are part of the team too.
